Choline Chloride Production Process – Reliable Feed Additive Supplier in China

What is Choline Chloride?
Choline Chloride is a quaternary ammonium salt and an essential nutrient widely used as a feed additive in poultry, swine, cattle, and aquaculture industries. It plays a vital role in fat metabolism, liver function, and nervous system development in animals.

Main Production Methods of Choline Chloride

  1. Ethylene Oxide Process (Mainstream Industrial Method)
This is the most widely used and efficient production method.

  • Raw materials: Trimethylamine, Ethylene Oxide, and Hydrochloric Acid

  • Step 1: Trimethylamine reacts with ethylene oxide to produce hydroxyethyl trimethyl ammonium hydroxide (choline base).

  • Step 2: This base is neutralized with hydrochloric acid to form choline chloride.

  • Step 3: The resulting solution is dried and mixed with carriers (such as corn cob powder or silica) to produce powder products with 60% or 70% choline chloride content.

Advantages:

  • High purity

  • Environmentally friendly

  • Suitable for large-scale production

  1. Chloroethanol Process (Less Common Today)
In this method, mono-chloroethanol reacts with trimethylamine to form choline chloride directly.
This method is less favored due to higher toxicity and environmental risks.

Final Product Forms

  • Liquid (75%): Clear, aqueous solution suitable for bulk feed premixes

  • Powder (60%): Mixed with corn cob powder, widely used in animal feed

  • Powder (70%): Higher concentration using silica or other carriers, suitable for precision formulas
